Why Choose Shield Tae Kwon Do?
The reality of the impact of parental choices becomes manifestly important as
the father of three sons. Each decision I have made acts as a thread that
weaves together the character of my children. Yet, I understand that my
voice can often be one among many that attempt to compete for the influence over
the character of my kids. The decisions that I make for them regarding
what I involve them in and who I set before them as teachers and examples become
immensely important. Parents are not alone in asking the questions:
How can I equip my children to stand as individuals of character within
society?"
Long before I was a father, I began training in the Martial Art of Tae Kwon Do, and grew to discover over time, how the same character based principles found in the Martial Arts are harmonious with the goal of parenting to equip children with a strong moral fiber. The growth one experiences through physical self-discipline translates into a character of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. These lessons learned over time translated into a parental choice to teach my own children these same values through the Martial Arts.
Not only do I value this influence with my own children, but also with those whom I teach as a Martial Arts instructor. Having trained for more than 25 years and having taught for more than 15 years, I've seen the importance of positive influences building children up into capable, confident, upright adults. With the arrival of the New Year, I'm excited about my vocational decision to open up my own Martial Arts studio. Here I intend to continue to pass down a foundation of character to my students, adults and children, through the physical aspects of the art of Tae Kwon Do. My hope is that I might further the growth of my students as one informed by the experiences of a parent and a teacher, and in doing so renew my community here in Richmond, one student at a time.
